Tumihub interview session 

The Aims Entertainment is a talent-driven organization that creates platforms for talented individuals on campuses to portray their talents.

The first event organized by the brand at the University of Osun mostly known as Uniosun was graced by Woli Agba and other celebrities as the judge for the talent show.

One would have thought it was easy to get this particular event done but it wasn't. During the planning stage, Tumihub was at a time part of it and we can tell the story of how uneasy it was.

KennyP (the founder of the brand) messaged us for supports, and at a point, he was so disappointed. The day was getting closer but plans weren’t solid. Sponsors are not forthcoming but he pushed through still. This is what we want youths to learn from, that ......

 It is not always easy but not also impossible! 

That is why we have taken it upon ourselves to interview youths who dares to follow what they believe in despite all odds.

It was very rough but God surprised me, and lots of testimonies. It was recorded as the best talent show in the university of Osun (Uniosun's) history. Our brand was the first entertainment brand to be registered with the school that made the audience thought it was the school that organized the event. We had up to 500k sponsorship. God just surprised me.

And definitely, I had lots of flaws but God didn't make it obvious to people. And I believe God will do the next in a grand style.

Tumihub decided to interview him and hear how he was able to go through life to the stage he is now. One wouldn’t have believed that someone in his condition could achieve what he has achieved so far.    

We asked him 10 questions only and his response comes out to be what youths aspiring to take their future serious need to learn.

Question one: can you tell us your full name

My name is Popoola Kehinde Boluwatife but people call me KennyP

Question two: How was growing up like? How did it contribute to your success today?

Growing up was very interesting and fun but at a point, I had low self-esteem because I had to live with burnt feet (I have a cobra-looking burnt leg) which was a result of an incidence when I was 6 months old. It made me feel as if "I'm not a normal kid."   but the moment i saw life differently, it changed me and I stopped making excuses.

What made you see life differently?

I had a surgical operation since childhood, August 2014, but it wasn't successful to my expectation. It was still the same old burnt leg I'm always ashamed of but in the hospital, I saw lots of burnt cases, and mine was the least in my ward. Mine was just two burnt feet while others were whole bodies. Ever since then, I've learned to be appreciative and to always bring the best from every situation.

Question three: How did you come up with the idea or vision for this brand?

Okay…. I was bored and frustrated by being a regular sweet kid that plays guitar to impress girls. I knew there is more I don't know about my potentials as lots of prophets on different occasions have prophesized. I also do find myself in my dreams among leaders in suits.

 So I started reading books which authors are Robert Kiyosaki, Brian Tracy, Napoleon Hills, and many more. I had knowledge and potentials but I wasn't using it. Instead, I was busy talking to friends like a motivational speaker.

A fateful day, Wale, my friend from childhood told me "Kenny you and this your philosophy, and we never see you do anything really important".

These words hurt but made me. I went back to think of what needed to be changed; what unmet needs that needed me. That led to a made-up quote I told myself which says

 "The most beautiful kind of humans aren’t the ones that met it beautiful, but those that made it beautiful"

So I made some undertakings; going to a Man's journey; turning my comfort zone to a battle zone; looking for ways to add values around me and yes I did enter a lot of big troubles but I was just age 20 - nothing to lose so it did worth it.

Question four: Were your parents and friends in support of your passion?

Actually, i lost my Mum 3 years ago. She was my biggest fan as she has seen potentials in me before I did. Dad encouraged me as he prays for my dreams every single day but he is always scared about my education.

 Well, the fear was an influence of my immediate elder brother, Brother Olufe, who is always concerned about me not suffering in my primary assignment, and ever-supportive twin is always like "Kenny abeg no enter debt o". My eldest brother is a big fan of my dreams too.

My Friends Wale, Whyke, Peace, Makins, Gerr, ard, and Mz were all supportive. Although at a point, they had doubts but still very supportive especially my Mentors, Precious, Dream9ation,. Mr. Demola Uniosun, Mc B,obo, and. Ms Doyin. They all showed me the sweetest love I can never forget. They supported me that at a point I was like 'is this a normal love?'.

Question five: What were your fears? How did you deal with them?

I wouldn't say I had fears that big. I accepted and trusted that I am a special being that can always fit in every situation. Most times, i just get to do that area's very risky and be ike

'Alatise lomó atise araré' a Yoruba adage that mean “the doer alone knows the way to go”.

 Till date I don't really know the meaning of those words I just believed it means something like I can solve all the challenges I face. So the  "alatise (doer)”  words really helps whenever I sense I'm going into something that looks bigger than me and yes I'm very prayerful.

Question six: You're a student. How are you coping with academics and your passion?

Most entertainers have bad grades - really bad grades but i wanted to be different. I didn't want it to suffer my education. At some point it was, but when I realized it I began to fight harder to manage my time. And yes it is very tiring.

Question seven: What are your goals?

To continue being Happy and to build a business empire that is a solution to the unmet needs in the world.

Question eight: Where do you see yourself in three to five years?

By God's Grace, in 5 years, I see myself having a great business empire that meets unmet needs in terms of entertainment, food, real estate, and farm production.

Question nine: What mistakes do you think you have made and how did/will you correct them?

I have made lots of mistakes. Mistakes that broke me; mistakes that made some people have wrong perspectives about me but without them I wouldn't be who I am today.

I lacked leadership skills and majorly lacked time management which really affected me but i am working on them daily by reading books on leadership and time management. In terms of leadership, I once had a problem in selecting the right the people with right attitudes to work with and also motivating people I work with to see what I've seen. In terms of time management, I do have problems with doing things at the right time like sometimes ago I was supposed to have a deal with Mtn, Tecno, and some other big brands but I stopped halfway because I couldn't manage my time. So I solved that by always writing my tasks and including times to be accomplished.

Question 10: what is your advice for youths out there.

Let's cultivate a 'Do it' attitude. Yes, you will fail in some areas but those failures aren’t risky as failure to not try at all.

Where is the truth?

Allegory of the cave

Plato claimed that knowledge gained through the senses is no more than opinion and that, in order to have real knowledge, we must gain it through philosophical reasoning.

Plato begins by imagining a cave where people have been imprisoned from childhood. These prisoners are chained so that their legs and necks are fixed, forcing them to gaze at the wall in front of them and not look around at the cave, each other, or themselves. Behind the prisoners is a fire, and between the fire and the prisoners is a raised walkway with a low wall, behind which people walk carrying objects or puppets "of men and other living things".

  The people walk behind the wall so their bodies do not cast shadows for the prisoners to see, but the objects they carry do. The prisoners cannot see any of what is happening behind them, they are only able to see the shadows cast upon the cave wall in front of them. The sounds of the people talking echo off the walls, and the prisoners believe these sounds come from the shadows.

Plato then supposes that one prisoner is freed. This prisoner would look around and see the fire. The light would hurt his eyes and make it difficult for him to see the objects casting the shadows. If he were told that what he is seeing is real instead of the other version of reality he sees on the wall, he would not believe it. In his pain, Plato continues, the freed prisoner would turn away and run back to what he is accustomed to (that is, the shadows of the carried objects). He writes "... it would hurt his eyes, and he would escape by turning away to the things which he was able to look at, and these he would believe to be clearer than what was being shown to him."

Plato continues: "Suppose... that someone should drag him... by force, up the rough ascent, the steep way up, and never stop until he could drag him out into the light of the sun." The prisoner would be angry and in pain, and this would only worsen when the radiant light of the sun overwhelms his eyes and blinds him.

"Slowly, his eyes adjust to the light of the sun. First he can only see shadows. Gradually he can see the reflections of people and things in water and then later see the people and things themselves. Eventually, he is able to look at the stars and moon at night until finally he can look upon the sun itself." Only after he can look straight at the sun "is he able to reason about it" and what it is.

Plato continues, saying that the freed prisoner would think that the world outside the cave was superior to the world he experienced in the cave and attempt to share this with the prisoners remaining in the cave attempting to bring them onto the journey he had just endured; "he would bless himself for the change, and pity [the other prisoners]" and would want to bring his fellow cave dwellers out of the cave and into the sunlight.

The returning prisoner, whose eyes have become accustomed to the sunlight, would be blind when he re-enters the cave, just as he was when he was first exposed to the sun. The prisoners, according to Plato, would infer from the returning man's blindness that the journey out of the cave had harmed him and that they should not undertake a similar journey. Plato concludes that the prisoners, if they were able, would therefore reach out and kill anyone who attempted to drag them out of the cave.

In a nutshell 

The allegory of the cave distinguishes between people who make sensory knowledge for the truth and those that really see the truth. This in fact leads to the unsuitability of the person preaching the "change" In the society. Take for instance, the unwillingness to change whenever there arises a need for improvement of societal norm.

Although, Plato’s Allegory of the Cave is a reminder that not everyone will understand or be happy for you, when you decide to change your habits and outlook on life. Although it’s not enough to leave the cave, it’s much more important that you stay outside of the cave and even when you enter don't cease to "open the understanding" of those still inside. 

These times have even made things worst in that...some those that have "left the cave" seeks to exploit those still held in the cave. Those that had left the cage are the "enlightened ones".

The lesson from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave is to question every assumption you have about that reality you call “real...done, not as a means of controlling others but as a way of making people around you live life of limitless possibilities...which will bring about a change for the better.

If you think you are a career person that doesn't need to know how to sell, that is a lie. What about selling yourself for that job or position?

If selling is unavoidable and uneasy, why are you not paying the right attention to it?

So many times when a business idea dropped into our minds, we are so happy because to us, we are going to make money. We are ready to set out but when you get there, you go know say no be so ooo😀😀😀😀

 I’ve always watched Robert Kiyosaki speak against the school system on YouTube calling the system ‘liars’ but I was a little bit biased about his judgment until I got this particular scene which I am about to paint.

It is said that a professor is someone who specializes in little things. Someone who moved from macro study to micro study. For example, as a building student, you have to run through numerous courses to be a graduate but a professor in that field can focus on ‘project planning’ only all through his life which is just a semester course for an undergraduate. Professors mainly study the depth of a topic.

As far as I know (especially in Nigeria), professors (educators in general) are more into research works. The aim of research work is to detect a problem by raising some important questions and drawing a conclusion on the subject matter.

Also as an entrepreneur, you detect a problem and further provide a solution which in return brings you profit. I solve your problem; you pay me money for doing that. Is this not a win-win event? So sweet right?

Here is what amazes me
The research works of the educators mostly end with grades or a presentation without getting out of the book. Anytime I attend conferences and I  doctors and professors presenting, the next question is “when will this be out of those pages and become reality?”

How can you detect a problem, document it with solutions and stop there?

The school system killed the conversion rate. It’s difficult to convert theories into real-life experiences.

 _If a professor and an entrepreneur are trying to do the same thing, proffering solution, why will one stop at the paper and the other stops at income?_

Do you see why an entrepreneur who graduated as an average student can hire a prof (best students) to work for him? The smartest student is not always the best student!

My Mom won’t just understand!

My Dad may still want to consider hearing me out to my last word but you see my Mom, she won’t even allow me to land before she lands on me.

Am i painting your picture right now or yours is the reverse? Let me tell you my own story

   There was a time my Mum (Iya Micheal) won’t just understand that i haven’t started making that much before she concludes that i am stingy and not considerate. She will lash me with words and i will be like “Mom i am doing this job not cos of the money but...” and she will be like “don’t tell me that...”

It eats deep in my mind and always digs out sorrow because she has really done a lot for me and i know it’s very important i do more but not in this job. How do i make her understand?

What’s your own case? I know a lot of us hates the overt protectiveness aspect of them. You are like “Mom, it’s called cropped top! Mom, it’s just a friend’s birthday”
 
For me, i have always enjoyed freedom against over protection.

In your head right now, you might be saying “My mom/dad won’t just allow me” but let me shock you that it is possible she will if you can consciously create that mindset in him/her.

Parents will always put restrictions on children (or switch on the overprotection mode) until they now have a "confident mindset" that that child now does the right things intentionally.
When they perceive that you now have that independent mindset- a mindset that cannot be easily influenced.

How will they know?
They are constantly testing you. Besides, your relationship with him/her (or parent) is the greatest test of all time.

How much are you working towards creating the impression that you are now mature enough instead of saying that orally when in an argument with him/her (your parents)?

If your parents can get that mindset about you, you have just unlocked the freedom you want.

Well, i know it doesn’t work with all parents. Maybe yours is one but it is not an excuse not to be mature enough. Improve how you respond in crises; when angry; about love; about your career and your decision making most importantly.

That “Overprotection” isn’t really working- it’s actually doing a bad thing to us. Allow him/her once a while but provide a guide to curb excesses. To every son and daughter reading this, you too will soon be a parent. Most times, we become what we hated if not cautiously uninstalled.

That is why it is not far from people to quickly raise their standard anytime there is an increment in the inflow of income for you. You simply say “I can’t wash my clothes myself again. I have moved past that level” and probably ends with “because there is no time”

My dream woke me up

My dream woke me up!

It is just January 2nd and I am supposed to be on holiday till 6th but my dream woke me up this early when I planned to have as much sleep as possible before going back to work. I didn’t get up very happy because what I was dreaming about wasn’t even my business in the first place. I wasn’t the main character in the dream and not even someone I was close to was in the dream. The faces in the dream were people I haven’t spoken with for a while. Besides, I am still very much angry because this I am writing too is not really about me but about YOU! Now let me get at it so that i can go back to my sleep.

Sometimes, I end up pitying myself! Why do I have to come to this world? Why can’t I just be something else - why human?

The major reason I always have the thought is nothing else but as a result of the gravity of CONFUSION that overwhelms me about a subject matter at that time. Let me give an instance:

I have heard from different celebrities, motivational speakers and even mentors that it’s best i put more of my effort into getting rich first before trying to fulfill a purpose. When I heard their reasons, it sounds so true and real that I wanted to drop all the dreams i have been having on purpose fulfillment. But then, the next day, I started reading a book by another achiever whose book is more like a success story and all he was telling me in his book is that there is nothing better than fulfilling purpose from the onset. I was so angry that he was saying Gibberish until I read his reasons and success story.  Now I am in the middle. Which of these is correct? Which one are you holding on to now?

This is one out of the millions of my confusion but I think I have gotten the right answer to this particular one and I will like to share with you. I just hope I won’t be confusing you too — Smiles.

MONEY is an important factor to fulfill a purpose — Right? At the same time, fulfilling purpose is an important factor for easy access to satisfaction and more money. This is another CONFUSION — Right? I have an idea.   

What if you discover purpose, begin to work on it and at the same time ensure you are in search of that thing you are PASSIONATE about that can be a source of income for you, will it be nice?

Are you still more confused as I am too? Let me quickly have another pity on myself and on you reading this.

He is looking for how to make legal money but he missed out on something; his desperation made him skip the first step which is to know which direction he should be focusing on. What can dedication do?

What dedication can do?

Lamech, orphaned at an early age with no family to help, leaving him to fend for himself.

He hopped from one job to the other to get money. At least to save for his tuition fees but was still impossible even after years.

Despite all these, he never gave up trying, never made excuses for the state of his being and despite all the multiple jobs, he created time for some social works. He was always ready to do anything to help society become a better place.

A time came when he was appointed to be the team lead of a set of people. Because of his allergy to failure, he gave his best to ensure the team got things right. This he did through writing and motivation. And with that, he discovered his love and passion for writing and motivating.

His write-ups and motivations helped the team so much that they surpassed expectations.

Ever since he discovered this about himself, he continued to work on it as his life's purpose.

Despite not being able to go to the University yet (not because there isn't money this time but there isn't time), his dedication to his passion got him to be the best in the field he has chosen and now, he has been awarded so many honorary degrees.

What has dedication done to Lamech?

KEEP WINNING!

I have often listened to a popular motivational speaker on the radio every Monday; for a time, he was my
favorite. He could quite easily become yours too, given the great doses of stinging action-provoking talks he injects into your youthful veins at the dawn of every business week to cure your slough. And he always ended with a phrase: "keep winning!‟ What a capping phrase!

That is most probably the
philosophy every youth here today operates with: to win, to be the first in Latin Negroland.

This is a powerful philosophy, and the selfsame reason we find it seems true that "no one becomes successful working for others‟. Apply it to the very letter, and no one will get to their destinations joining your wagon too! For the simple reason that those who become good at winning can only do so
in competitions, as titanic plutocrats exploiting every resource around, including their employees and customers, to hoard wealth.

This is hardly a bad thing in itself: if material wealth is the ultimate
definition of your success, compete! Why not? In fact, the dominating forces in the business world are those of competition, and the celebrated players are those who have found ways to send others packing! The prayers of such have been "to buy cheaply and sell at a high price‟, or "small work, large money‟.


But as Wallace Wattles pointed out in his _'The Science of Getting Rich’_, a book which I stumbled
upon in trying to get a get rid of the struggles which laid siege of my mind upon careful consideration
of the plight of bottom-end workers of the economy, “Riches secured on the competitive plane are never satisfactory and permanent, they are yours today, and another's tomorrow”.

Accursed with something worse than materialism, the competing man deploys all diligence to ensure he is in sole possession of what could make the lives of much easier; the simple formula is to pay less for the higher value and charge high for lower value to make it quickly on the competitive plane. This is business psychopathy, a path taken by the unenlightened, and the exact reason we wish to believe money does not mean happiness, knowing many of them are rich but wretched in private. They reap cash only to start seeking happiness to purchase in the black market. What is the use of hoarding it all and then giving part in charity to those made poor for you to be rich?


The golden truth is this: wealth comes with happiness on a different highway- on the creative plane!

Youthpreneuring on the creative plane entails recognizing the truth that you do not have to beat others at anything to be successful yourself: you do not need to underpay employees or partners, hike prices during the scarcity of hoard goods, nor secure monopoly of God-given resources to be wealthy. You do
not have to take ungodly advantages of information, nor be a slave to the laws of capitalistic economies. All that has to be done is to deliver value at the right cost and do business with the mentality that the most important raw material- creativity itself- is in unlimited supply. This connects your endeavor to
higher meaning, universal creative process, and the unlimited raw materials the universe has to offer. There is more for everyone!


It is however even more difficult to walk the creative plane than the competitive plane in a market  where the sweetest jingles sound over the most worthless merchandise, and except you are totally stricken with the truth of the fact that happiness is what we are ultimately after, and that you are spiritually and philosophically wretched if your business contacts do not get the right value for their efforts, it will seem hell to take bold steps in this direction.

Whichever way you go, however, keep winning!

In the wisps of breath, leaving my lips in soft whispers.
The tilt of my silken fingers,

Episode 21

Pam got home and immediately started to pack his things in preparation to meet up with the bus taking him and other members of his fellowship to a one week camp for youths. Rita was very angry and asked why he didn't inform her earlier and he said he thought of telling her but it skipped his mind. In no time, he left for the bus.
Rita was discouraged to wait because Nath wasn't around too as he was invited to an after exam chill organized by some students in the school. She concluded to go home the next day. She thought of something profitable to do during the long holiday and what came to her mind was either teaching or learning bead making but since she knew her parents would not allow her to teach, she decided to go for the latter.

She was set to travel the next day with her belongings only for Nath to show up. He pleaded that she wait till the next day so that they can gist and in no time she agreed; quickly decided on what they can eat. She got to the market to get the necessary ingredients and cooked a nice meal.

They ate the rice and stew enriched with sliced fish, meat, animal skin (Ponmo) and a white oval-shaped ball swimming amongst the red stew but in no time they started yawning as if they both just took sleeping pills. Few minutes after, they were long asleep and didn't wake until four hours. When Nath woke, he went straight to the pot to take another round of food and while doing that, the sound of the pots woke Rita up and she joined in eating the remaining rice with Nath in the pot directly which ended with argument on who to collect the pot to eat the last few spoons in it. Nath grabbed the pot and ran towards the door but Rita followed and managed to reach the pot. She spat into the food with the hope that Nath would have no choice but give her the food; she walked majestically to her sit but Nath locked the door and kept the key in his pocket.

This time, Rita didn't know what he had done. Still facing the door, with the pot in his left hand, he shoots his buttocks a little bit back and immediately a three seconds sound like someone tearing an old wrapper with his hands came out from his buttocks; then he began eating the rice. Rita smelled it in no time and tried to run out but since he has locked the door, she got back to him and was giving him blows in his shoulder.

Nath finished the rice and landed on the bed like he was going back to sleep. He stretched his hands towards the side of the bed to carry his laptop and placed it in front of the bed. He searched through his video and played a movie. In no time, Rita joined him on the bed with one side of her skin tattooed with his.

Halfway into the movie, Nath's hands found his way making a curve around Rita's waist- it was a curdling and it wasn't an offence to both of them. In fact, at a point, Rita was moving her palm over Nath's hand as they watch the film still but it only had little effect on Nath- still normal.

  The next day which they had agreed on a date for Rita to leave came but Rita wasn't looking like she was going to leave. She and Nath continued the routine- gisting, watching movies, eating and sleeping at intervals.

It was over three days and she hadn't still left but already made up her mind to go the next day. She didn't remember to inform Nath until late night when Nath promised to tell her something important to him the next day.

Rita, I've been finding it difficult to tell you something all these while but I think I will gather the courage to tell you tomorrow evening. Don't ask me to tell you now because I won't Nath said after saying goodnight severally.

Rita replied that she was going home but Nath pleaded that she wait just for that day only in which she agreed. Thereafter, he closed his eyes, plugged in his earpiece as he listened to soul music as a lullaby for his sleep but on Rita side, she got so curious of what Nath is about to tell her.

“I knew him to be very courageous and blunt but what could this be? Is it a secret again or has he found out that I was the one that paid his school fee? Rita kept thinking about this until she slept off.

Episode 20

“Pam! Don’t tell me that you’ve been listening to my conversation on phone” she  asked stylishly without leaving an impression of fear. “Yes of course. I’ve been standing behind you for about five minutes just waiting for you to end the call and I heard everything” Pam said laughing.

Rita was shocked and teased him to tell her what he heard until Pam finally told her that he was lying. “I didn’t hear anything. I got to see you few seconds before you hung up the call but why are you so concerned about me hearing your conversation or not. I hope you haven’t been keeping secrets from ne?” he said but Rita quickly replied that it was female’s talk which he shouldn’t hear and was happy he didn’t hear. They left for the library thereafter.



In the scanty library filled with almost irrelevant books, Pam eventually found a manageable textbook to teach Rita a topic in one of their major course since he left his at home. It was a calculation course, so he started with simple questions just to encourage Rita to learn which she did learn not until it started getting complex. She tried hard to understand but since she wasn’t getting it and was getting headache instead, she decided to switch to what looks fascinating to her.



She stole glances more on Pam’s face than looking into the book.  The movement of his lips while he explains became the course of study to her especially when he giggled or laughed, she reciprocated with a slight smile whereas her heart skipped beats with that. “I’m very amazed at how someone can be this brilliant!” she thought about this when Pam couldn’t solve a question at first but thinking for few minutes after, he solved it.



“Rita do you understand?” Pam said this for about two times before she could hear- she was lost in thoughts but he didn’t know since she was nodding her head at intervals to signify she was getting it.

“what were you thinking about? Ok let me see if you get anything we’ve been learning since morning” he formed some questions oIfhand and asked her to solve it but she was only able to solve the simplest part after checking through her notes to follow his steps and that was all.



Pam had to start explaining it again from the beginning and ensured she was following this time by asking her what he said last. He did this until they have finished solving two questions out of four and asked that they do the remaining later since he noticed Rita was tired and looked saturated already- he didn’t want to bombard her with so much than she can chew.



All these while, they have spent close to two hours in the library. Pam checked his wristwatch and was surprised to have used that time. He told Rita he was going to church and will be happy if she can go with him. “It’s just two hours and we will back.” He said.



She agreed and followed him. On getting to church, Pam was hijacked by some ladies like as if they have been expecting him for long. He left Rita at the entrance and didn’t come back to check on her until about thirty minutes after the end of the service. Rita was angry but her anger was more of jealousy seeing girls flock around Pam all through till they left- in fact, they dint want to release him if not because Rita was already in haste.



As they walked home, Rita won’t stop thinking about what happened in church seeing Pam sings well like that. She didn’t even for one day hear him sing until in church. She was about making jest of him when he mounted the pulpit not until he sang; she became afloat in the air.



Rita developed feeling on the long run seeing Pam doing brilliantly in a lot of things she didn’t know about him before. She was really in love and was ready to express her feelings if she can. She got closer to Nath and Pam personally this semester unlike the previous when they were all together. It’s either she is with Pam studying or she’s with Nath gisting about this guy she called Darrel. She gave that name so that Nath won’t know who the person is and since the meaning of Darrel was love, it was ok with her.



“Nath! Right now, I’m very desperate or else I will be sick if I don’t get out of this obsession for Darrel. I can’t stop thinking about him every leisure time I have. Do you have any way i can be out of this? Because most times, I end up leaving everything I’m doing whenever i am lost in thought of him- even when I’m reading too. I think I love him and I suspect he is having feelings for me too. Nowadays, he’s always jealous anytime I’m talking with another guy in his presence- I can see that all over his face every time. In fact, the way he looks at me nowadays makes me want to kiss him immediately” Rita explained after writing her final examination that semester. The exams were all sweet since she prepared well from the onset with the help of Pam.


She was so happy because she didn’t believe she could write exams as easy as this but she was happier because she now has more time with Nath and Pam. She planned on staying at least three days before leaving for the long holiday only for Pam to return with a heart rending story.

Episode 2: the hustle is a spirit!

I observed perfect silence that was slightly polluted by the foot step of few people. Looking towards the heaven, I saw something like a white-cool-air falling on my skin and my bags and I guess it fell on the parked buses too because I can see a replica of what I’m seeing in the atmosphere on the buses too. I tried to touch it and it was a confirmation because my touch exposed the real white glass of the bus and left the shape I made with my hands and also left the tip of my finger wet with water.

I bumped into another bus and tried writing my name on it and it was fun doing that- I forgot I was going somewhere. I quickly came back to my senses and walked towards the particular position to board the bus going towards my destination.   

I was dazed by what I saw- I thought the boot of those yellow eighteen passengers buses were for heavy loads alone. I thought it was for the loads we have to pay extra amount for after paying the original transport fare for or the one we have to run after throwing the loads into to catch up with the bus before he leaves us behind while trying to run away from the government officials on the road. I thought it was for those heavy rice they stack in it so much that the bus begin to crawl and making a hell of sound to move, while passengers complain about a whole lot of things- from the bus to the driver and finally on our government. That was all I thought the boot could do.

But at this time of the morning, I saw the boots sheltering people! The door to the boot was lifted to it’s limit while a very long soul lay across the width of the bus; he took his legs to the roof of the bus otherwise, the space won’t contain him. as I shook my head in pity, I saw this time a guy and a lady in another boot sleeping there. I almost cried but I didn’t know when I began to thank God for my life. I intensified my giving of thanks when I saw some people sleeping on the bench outside and others on the seats of the buses- I guess they are the richest.

I finally came out of all the drama after seeing some people around a bus. Smokes coming from different angles accompanied by the irritating smell while some at one corner sharing something that looks like a ‘curry and thyme powder mixed with some vegetables’ picking something out of it; then rolled into a smoke with a paper. A lady was standing close to the bus which is almost filled; she was having some plastic bottles arranged like a cone in a big bowl placed on a stool front of her and some other things in sachets around the bowl- not too long after, I realized some of these guys were holding these sachet contents and anytime they seeped a little, they behaved as if a bitter content pass through their mouth and became hot in their heart.

Finally, I realized these people I was seeing- those sleeping and those taking their own morning tea happened to be the drivers that most us board their bus in the day but didn’t know what their night is like- the cold, mosquito, sort sleep, smoke, gin and so on.

Lagos and this hustle; I was still doubting that the hustle is a spirit until I finally got to my destination!
